Chris Stroup once said, “In the late 1800s, no business matched the financial and political dominance of the railroad.
“Trains dominated the transportation industry of the United States, moving both people and goods throughout the country.
Then a new discovery came along – the car – and incredibly the leaders of the railroad industry did not take advantage of their unique position to participate in this transportation development.
In his book, The Search for Excellence, Tom Peters points out the reason: “The railroad barons didn’t understand what business they were in.”
Peters observes that “they thought they were in the train business.
“But, they were in fact in the
transportation business.
“Time passed them by, as did opportunity.
“They couldn’t see what their real purpose was.’”
For King David, he had spent a lot of time preparing to be the king. God anointed him by the prophet and yet he waited until the time was right to become king.
Saul did not appreciate David and he turned his anger towards him and hated David.
We need to rejoice fully with those who get success.
It’s one of the hardest things to do, when we can’t sleep at night then someone says they had a great night’s sleep, and it can be easy to get upset or angry.
We need to be happy for them.
“Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.
“Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly.
“Do not be wise in your own estimation.
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:15-16, 21).
With King David, one of the first things he did when he finally became king was that he brought the Ark of the Covenant back.
It was a beautiful thing that took place.
In the same way with the railroad and cars, we must continue to use God’s wisdom.
Our strength and knowledge only can carry us so far.
With God on our side, we can do great things.
Make God a priority in your life. Put Him first.
