Dear editor,
“On the 21st of September, Mike Reddell of the Bay City Sentinel published an Opinion piece regarding transparency in government.
While I agree with the overall sentiment of the article, I want to offer my side as an elected official and expand on it.
I believe there are very few, limited instances where less information benefits the public.
I am committed to 100% transparency and 100% accountability with the residents of Bay City.
This includes the reasoning behind my council votes, initiatives, and participation in public events.
One example of transparency is some materials and presentations shown at council meetings, which sometimes do not make it to the official packet.
There are several reasons why that may happen, but these are not nefarious.
Anyone can request those via FOIA if you are so inclined.
The only exclusions would be items discussed during closed sessions.
But in the spirit of my stated commitment, I have started sharing my copies with both newspapers once the item has been addressed on the agenda.
Finally, to all city residents and city employees, I work for you. Help me be a better representative for you, contact me via the City Secretary or chat with me if you see me out and about. #ABrighterTexas
