It’s weird to know that school starts next week for most local children.
I mean, this weekend is “Tax Free Weekend” across the state and I’m seeing all of my friends hunting for the best deals online for their children.
Everything from shoes, socks and T-shirts to notebooks, folders and binders are tax free as long as they’re $100 or less at the time of sale.
In fact, the weekend still reminds me of spending time collecting the latest advertisement inserts to find the best deals for our school supplies and clothes.
When I was in high school, I got better about ensuring my supplies were recycled at the end of the previous year, then sorted and stored safely to ride out the summer mayhem in preparation for our return to campuses in the fall.
On one hand, I’m grateful that I’m not in school anymore and that I get more promotional items to help support local businesses all the time when I attend community events.
I don’t think we need anything for the office to purchase either, but I’ll be double-checking with mom just to make sure.
I think the only thing I’d need is a physical planner – a type of calendar with large print and no unnecessary frills to help me keep my events and meetings organized better.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of being digital as much as pos
sible and do use my calendar on my cell phone, but, it’s much more satisfying to cross a completed item off a paper calendar than to just click ‘delete’ on a screen.
Plus, if I’m unavailable and out of the house then mom or Mike can check my planner to see where I’m at or what I’m doing.
On the other hand, I’m also just trying to budget for a new cat scratcher and perch combination for Bones to enjoy.
Apparently, Siamese cats are a very active breed and there’s only so much fun time that he’s willing to have with Penny.
Plus, I’m hoping the purchase helps save mom’s furniture and my hands from when he gets extra bitey or scratchy.
Now, I trimmed his little front claws and he’s not a really aggressive kitten, but he wants attention all the time!
Since we work from home, there’s always someone in the office or house and he’s more than welcome to hang out with us, but he’s already creating mischief!
He’s managed to steal several pieces of mom’s potpourri collections and has used them as toys and keeps opening the cabinets in the bathroom.
Honestly, I’m worried one day he may get it too far open and create a problem for us when we need to get access to the bathroom.
Mom and I are hoping that when he’s ready to be neutered in October that it will help curtail some of his constant rambunctious and borderline-destructive behavior.
Outside of that, he’s adjusting quite well to the Casa de Reddell family life and is giving Penny a run for her money when it comes to playing around.
Plus, I like to think it’s good that they’ll have each other and can only hope that he prefers being an inside cat rather than an outside one once he’s grown.
