Gary Chapman once said, “I am amazed by how many individuals mess up every new day with yesterday.”
In his famous book, “The Five Love Languages,” we see how there are many ways to show love.
While this book is really a marriage book, we can actually apply this to all of our relationships with people.
Gary points out five major love languages: gifts, words of affirmation, acts of service, physical touch, and quality time.
Christmas shouldn’t be just about the gifts because that is only one way to show our love.
I know when my Dad was alive, his love language was acts of service.
If I helped him with a project or to move something, he would be very thankful.
Maybe you have someone in your life who is that type.
Perhaps you could go and mow their yard for them this week.
Another way is to simply give them a pay on the back.
At our church we give high-fives.
This is one way we can support one another.
This love language is really dependent on the relationship,
You can also show love when you spend time with them.
As we get older, we may not be interested in the gifts as much as we are with time.
Give someone a couple of hours this week and go see some lights.
When I spend quality time with my family I am blessed.
You can tell the joy of someone by looking at their eyes.
When someone smiles with their eyes, you can see much more expression.
Look at yourself in the mirror and smile without moving your eyes. Notice how you really don’t feel happy.
A true smile involves our eyes.
Words of affirmation is a great gift for this season.
This can involve writing a card to a friend you know.
This year I was really blessed to get a Christmas card from my church members Jonathan and Christina Zavala.
Receiving a card is unique and something that many do not do today.
Although a card isn’t grand or extravagant, it can be just what someone needs this week.
While we are called to love the people around us, we are also called to love God.
So how can we show love to God?
What is His love language?
God’s love language is faith.
Hebrews 11:6 shows faith is God’s love language.
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him” (NIV).
When we have faith in God, He is loved.
Because you took time out of your day to pray, God is joyful!
Whatever you do for the least of these you are doing it for God. When we love the people of this world, we are loving God.
Bless the Lord by having great faith today!
