As Christmas is here, we can remember some of the greatest Christmas movies and stories.
We think about Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Miracle of 34th Street, but what is the greatest Christmas Story?
What is the reason for the season?
The church should never be bothered by how the world defines Christmas.
I actually totally understand how businesses push their products more in December.
That’s what they should do.
According to the National Retail Federation, Americans are going to spend between $943 and $960 billion in the months of November and December this year, with average spending for gifts and other holiday-related items expected to amount to $883 per consumer.
When I see a pizza place have a sale on their food by saying “celebrate Christmas with a slice of pizza.”
It is totally understandable.
Yet when I listen to a lot of Bible teachers, they complain about how bad America is and they complain about how terrible consumerism is.
They say people don’t know the true meaning of Christmas.
Listen if you were looking for the pizza shop to tell you who Jesus is, you need to pause and take a moment to breathe.
Walmart is not gonna tell you about who Jesus is.
Their role is to sell products. America is a great country.
We have to look at the right place to know the reason for the season.
It is the Word of God that gives us the perfect Christmas story.
The cast is perfect: Joseph, Mary, shepherds, animals, wise men, Harod, and the sweet baby Jesus.
And yes, I’m sure baby Jesus wasn’t completely silent that night.
The story is not over.
Jesus told His disciples, “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.” (John 14:12 ).
How can we do greater works?
We do it not necessarily in quality, we do this by quantity.
Through the Gospel, more of the sick have been healed, more of the blind have seen, more have been saved than Jesus’ ministry of three years.
Today you can be a part of this journey by reading the Christmas story with you family.
Open the Bible Christmas Eve and read Luke 2:1-20.
