Nothing sells better at spooky season than a good scary movie.
In this case, ‘good’ is in the eye of the beholder.
I really appreciated the choreography of the fighting/killing scenes and the creativity that went into keeping Michael Myers true to his origins.
Halloween Kills is a slasher film directed by David Gordon Green and written by Green, Danny McBride, and Scott Teems.
The film is a direct sequel to 2018’s Halloween and the 12th installment in the Halloween franchise.
The film stars Jamie Lee Curtis and James Jude Courtney, who reprise their roles as Laurie Strode and Michael Myers.
Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Dylan Arnold, Haluk Bilginer, and Will Patton also reprise their roles from the previous film, with Anthony Michael Hall, Nancy Stephens, Diva Tyler, Lenny Clarke, Robert Longstreet, Kyle Richards Tom Jones Jr., Carmela McNeal, and Thomas Mann joining the cast.
The film, which begins precisely where the previous film ended, sees Strode and her family continuing to fend off Myers, this time with the help of the Haddonfield community.
Halloween Kills is rated R for strong bloody violence throughout, grisly images, language, and some drug use and has a total one hour and 45 minutes run time.
On October 31, 2018, after being stabbed and left to die, Deputy Frank Hawkins (Patton) is found by passing teenager Cameron Elam (Arnold), who tends to his wounds and calls him an ambulance.
Hawkins was stabbed by psychiatrist Dr. Ranbir Sartain (Bilginer) in order to escape with spree killer Michael Myers.
Awakening, Hawkins regrets accidentally shooting and killing his partner in pursuit of Michael 40 years earlier before preventing Michael’s original psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis (Jones) from executing him outside of Michael’s childhood home in order to arrest him himself, before resolving to kill him himself in the present.
Later that night, Tommy Doyle (Hall) celebrates the 40th anniversary of Michael’s arrest and imprisonment with longtime friends Marion Chambers (Stephens), Lindsey Wallace (Richards), and Cameron’s father Lonnie (Longstreet), before toasting to the name of Laurie Strode (Curtis).
Elsewhere, after locking Michael in her basement and setting it on fire, Laurie, her daughter Karen (Greer), and her granddaughter Allyson (Matichak) are horrified when a group of firefighters arrive at the burning Strode residence, unwittingly freeing Michael from the basement.
Naturally, once free Michael singlehandedly kills them all before driving back to Haddonfield in their fire engine.
Karen and Allyson submit Laurie to emergency surgery while Michael kills Laurie’s neighbors Sondra (Tyler) and Phil (Clarke).
A mobile phone-based emergency alert informs Tommy, Marion, Lindsey, and Lonnie of Michael’s escape before bar patron Vanessa (McNeal) claims that she encounters Michael in the backseat of her car.
Tommy and the others go outside to confront Michael as the car drives away and crashes; the driver leaves unnoticed by the crowd.
En route to collect Cameron, Tommy forms a mob full of vengeful Haddonfield citizens to hunt down and kill Michael before he can kill anyone else.
But, as always, this Halloweens movie is still open-ended and leaves room for more grisly deaths and the never-ending quest to kill the boogeyman.
