Kevin McSpadden at Time Magazine, made an interesting observation.
“The average attention span for a goldfish is nine seconds, but according to a study from Microsoft, people now generally lose concentration after eight seconds, highlighting the effects of an increasingly digitalized lifestyle on the brain,” McSpadden said.
We are losing to a goldfish. How can we lose to a fish?
In this world, we need a sharp focus.
It is my prayer that you live a focused life.
How can we live a life free from distractions?
Paul told the Church in Colossae, “To the saints and faithful brothers and sisters in Christ who are at Colossae: Grace to you and peace from God our Father” (Colossians 1:2).
Grace and peace should be our prayer for one another.
We can always use more grace and favor in our lives. We can live free from distractions when we have grace and peace.
Think about those who perform great stunts on high buildings. These people can walk on tightropes across high buildings.
How do they do this?
By peace, when we have peace in our heart, we will not be bothered by this world.
True peace doesn’t happen when everything goes our way.
True peace is when we settle in our hearts that Jesus is Lord.
One way to have peace is through prayer. We should pray always.
At all times we should be in communication with God. Yet at the same time, we need specific times to talk to God.
You need time with God alone. When we appreciate what we have, we will be healthier. We will eat at home instead of ordering to-go.
When we appreciate what we have, we will exercise our body because we are only given one life on this Earth.
Yes, we will get a new body in Heaven, but by that time, you cannot save anyone up there.
The Apostle Paul also told the Church in Colossea, “So that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God” (Colossians 1:10).
What does this mean to walk worthy of the Lord?
This means that not only do I believe that Church is good for me, I go.
Not only do I believe dumbbells are good for me, I lift them.
And not only do I believe that friendships are good for me, I call up my friend.
It’s time to make a decision.
I want to challenge you, appreciate what you have. Appreciate what God has given you.
Realize that this life is a gift from God.
When we take time to pause and thank the Lord, we will become more peaceful.
