It seems like there’s always something going on in Matagorda County every weekend in October.
And even though it’s in the last few months of the year, it’s starting to feel semi-normal to me.
Granted, I’m still wearing my mask in crowded places and using a ton of hand sanitizer, but, it could always be worse.
On one hand, I’m thrilled since it means there’s plenty of public events to snap photos while covering said event.
But, on the other hand, as we drew closer to my annual birthday weekend of ‘fun,’ I had to make a choice this year.
Believe me, I was itching to get back to walking around at the annual Texas Renaissance Festival, but, COVID-19 and weather forecasts worked against me and made that dream impossible this year.
I’ll have to content myself with watching their social media updates and planning better for next year!
My choice was also made because my birthday falls on a Tuesday and partially because I’m so used to having it coincide with Halloween events.
This year, I’ve had to split the time spent with my siblings since both couldn’t make an appearance the same weekend due to work conflicts.
I got to spend some time with my brother last weekend checking out Yamato Hibachi & Sushi for the first time in person.
Usually, I just make phone orders to-go and swing by to pick it
up instead of dining in.
And technically, it was a new experience for everyone that way.
Mom was only a little worried it would smell like fish inside since she’s not a fan of sushi or almost fish in any form.
But, oddly enough, she likes to eat shrimp, so, I don’t even know what to say about that one.
Overall it was a fairly awesome experience and has put Yamato on my radar for more special events or to eat out at in general.
Besides, if they can make zucchini taste delicious then they’ve got everyone else beat anyway!
I’m planning to do more for when my sister comes to visit like the traditional pumpkin carving and scary movie nights.
Luckily, that isn’t until Halloween weekend, so, I’ve got plenty of time to add more plans to the list or cross some out, depending on how the weather shapes up.
Though I’m leaning towards it probably being something that I’ll make up on the spot or go with the flow of things regardless.
But, I did make sure to buy our carving pumpkins in advance this year in case there’s a shortage by Halloween.
Since Halloween falls on a Sunday this year, it’s even harder to plan out anything like a costume or attending an adult event rather than one geared towards children.
Plus, despite the fact that we’re both vaccinated and won’t be too close to people, my sister is being a party pooper and not wanting to go hang out outside of the house with me.
We’re just going to wait and see, I suppose.
