On Wednesday Feb. 8, the chapel service of Asbury University held their usual Wednesday Chapel service.
Yet despite what would usually seem normal turned into something amazing for Kentucky.
The speaker, Zach Meerkreebs, shared a message on the love of God.
He concluded this sermon by saying, “Jesus do a new thing in our midst. Revive us by your love.”
After this sermon, they begin to worship and they continued on.
Is the Asbury revival really a revival?
What is a revival? GotQuestions.org describes revival as, “Revival refers to a spiritual reawakening from a state of dormancy or stagnation in the life of a believer.”
Revival replicates what took place when we first got saved.
We today are definitely in Christ and we live in Christ today.
It is also good to be refreshed by God’s presence.
This is related well when we think romantic love. Revelation 2:4 actually reminds us of this by saying, “But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first.”
This was specifically talking about how this church had lost their love for God.
There was a man who prayed for revival - he went out and stood on a dry piece of pasture and drew a circle about 10 feet.
He stood in the center of the circle and we began to pray, “Lord bring revival to everyone in the circle.” Revival begins when it begins with me.
Some believers who are not charismatic are going to see worship as shallow.
It’s not important, you don’t need to raise your hands because it’s not about emotion. Yet I wonder how they will react when they are in the presence of God?
Can you imagine for a moment what it would look like in a church that doesn’t raise your hand doesn’t get emotional and then goes to the heavenly presence of God.
They would act like some charismatic.
They would fall on their knees crying and in awe of God.
The Psalmist wrote, “Will You not revive us again that Your people may rejoice in You?” (Psalm 85:6, NKJV).
Just because we are alive in Christ does that mean we are emotionally alive. The majority of your Christian life may be a bit mundane, a bit boring.
You may be tired when you get to church and may be tired when you get to the Thursday night church.
Don’t let that hinder you. Don’t let your feelings throughout the week make you feel less of a Christian.
Martyn Lloyd-Jones once said, “What is the chief end of preaching? I like to think it is this. It is to give men and women a sense of God and His presence.”
May that be what we experience when we go to Church.
May we get on our knees and worship God.
Also the Jesus Revolution hits theaters this week!
What great timing, I haven’t seen the movie but it is a great reminder that we need more people to be passionate about Jesus!
Let the Asbury Revival be an inspiration for this nation.
