I don’t know if you’ve seen the forecast models for Christmas this weekend, but, we’re looking at freezing and below-freezing temperatures!
There are some predictions that include a wind chill making 19 degrees feel closer to two.
While there isn’t really any snowfall expected in our area, I think that’s the only thing I could find bearable about dealing with such drastic drops in temperature.
With all of this weather news impacting plans and family traditions, my siblings are making the trek home earlier than expected.
As it stands, my brother arrived early Monday morning and my sister is shooting for Wednesday afternoon before the worst of the weather makes an official appearance.
At the same time, mom is running errands left and right to get all necessities in advance and I’m doing all I can to help on my end.
I did get fitted for a walking boot and new doctor’s orders last week.
That means I’m upward and more mobile faster than previously expected.
However, I wasn’t a fan of the recent bevy of x-rays the doctor ordered – he wanted me to be weight-bearing for the images and that opened a whole new avenue of discomfort and pain.
I honestly didn’t think standing and making a minor lunge motion onto my right leg and ankle joint would make me almost burst into tears, but, I learned quickly just how sensitive to movement I’ve become.
Not to mention, healing from a broken leg, even with surgery is taking much longer than I had hoped to endure, too.
Since this is my first broken bone, I didn’t have much of an experience to compare it against aside from the time I hyperextended my ligaments.
The pain between the two is not comparable at all!
Still, I’m glad to finally be in a walking boot and able to be a bit more mobile without so many extra appliances or restrictions.
It definitely answered my Christmas wish this year!
Now, I’ve got a few more weeks before I return to the doctor and get evaluated for physical therapy – but that’s a 2023 Jessica problem and I just want to make it through the end of this year without worrying too much about the next just yet.
That being said, I did get to cross off a positive item from my bucket list since we caught “The Nutcracker” at the Houston Ballet last weekend.
Growing up, it was a tradition for my sister and me to always catch the performances on PBS and pretend to follow along dancing on our living room rug.
I think even one year there might have been some singing involved.
But, that could also be some overlap in my memories, too.
In fact, that ballet production fueled my childhood career dream of being a Kung Fu warrior ballerina.
Between the costuming, sets, music, and skills of the dancers, it was a moving experience overall.
The only regret I have from the showcase is that there was an unexpected amount of stairs and I might have overdone it a bit.
Even with that, it was memorable and will always hold a special place with other Christmas recollections.
