The traffic roundabout that TxDOT contractors are working at Texas 60 and FM 2668 continues to draw any number of responses from people.
I’m forever tainted about traffic circles by the Chevy Case European Vacation comedy where he is trapped circling for hours on a traffic circle.
We were kind of trapped momentarily a few days back on the roundabout when the driver of pickup truck we were following chose to leave the circle then realized his wrong choice and suddenly backed up on us.
We had someone behind us and were trapped.
The contractors aren’t particularly interested in directing traffic even when it’s desperately needed during construction.
I’ve also found that you can’t depend on everyone at a stop to, like, stop.
Oh well, TxDOT has built several of these across the state and really believes in them and their cost, particularly compared to overpasses.
Saturday, I found the traffic circle empty – escaping a headache - and I headed south to Matagorda for the Andrew Vasek Memorial Scholarship Cook-Off.
Just a little bit down the road, I saw one of those message boards advise that utility work was just ahead and expect a 15-minute wait.
Fifteen minutes?
Are you kidding?
That’s an eternity in my patience meter.
I’m unhappy waiting for long trains and even those typically don’t take 15 minutes to pass.
Before I go on, there was no utility work going on Saturday, so I was spared have to spend a stretch of time in a truck without air conditioning.
And Saturday’s mid 80s temperature gave us a reminder that summer is coming.
Moving on, I see where our Governor continues to blast public schools in his quest for vouchers that will take money from public education and place it in private schools.
His attack on public school teachers to sell the voucher plan is unprecedented.
And now, he’s moved to pardon a man less than a day after a jury convicted him of murder – a man with a history of racist hate-filled rants.
I’m troubled at how many people admire the killer and endorse Abbott’s move.
Early voting for election May 6 begins Monday, April 24, and runs through May 2.
A major election item is the Matagorda Harbor expansion – a $68 million proposal from the Port of Bay City Authority.
It features lots of improvements to the harbor and is promoted as a boon to tourism and economic development.
The port’s board made presentations at Matagorda, Bay City and Sargent, and fielded a fair amount of questions and lectures about the proposal.
