CAST’s director of Savannah Sipping Society, Darve Smith, and the entire cast nailed this one!
If you love comedy, then be sure to catch this play before it ends March 16.
This play is centered on the lives of four women who move through various transitions and stages in their lives.
But it’s not just hilarious, it’s also heartfelt.
With so much of today’s mainstream focus on being young and women being told that youth is beautiful, this play is refreshing.
The Savannah Sipping Society does not celebrate the young woman in love.
It does not celebrate the young woman who has it all figured out.
It does not celebrate the young woman who is finding herself.
It celebrates Randa (played by Ginni Thomas), a woman finding herself and learning to lighten up after being passed over for a promotion to a younger man with less skills and time at a firm.
She is the perfect Southern belle with all the airs and grace of Southern royalty.
It celebrates Dot (played by Stacy Steiner), a widower who is finding herself after years of marriage with the love of her life.
She is a delightful older woman who has a tender loving heart.
It celebrates Marlafaye (played by Katie Brown), who has been betrayed and left for someone else.
She is larger than life and makes the perfect bitter divorcee - just wait for the doll!
And it celebrates Jinx (played by Dixie Fraser), a woman who is a caregiver and the glue for others.
She is the upbeat life coach who helps these women find their zest for life again.
There are moments of hilarity which start out of the gate with a roasting of hot yoga and follow throughout the entirety of the play.
But what really did it for me was the depth that each character has as the story unfolds.
It is the tender moments of budding friendship.
It is the bonding that takes place over the realization of how much you have in common with someone.
And it is realizing that we should never judge anyone from the surface - we’re all going through our own troubles.
As the play progresses, you witness the beauty in finding your chosen family.
And this play reminds us that you never know where these people will show up for you.
I laughed, and I cried.
And then I laughed some more.
Bottom line is, we can each see a little bit of ourselves in each of these women.
So take your mother and your sister with you and make a day of it.
Or your husband or boyfriend - they’ll laugh, too!
Darve was right when he said, “We really have something here.”
Yep - something truly special.
Thank you to the cast and crew for another wonderfully delightful performance!
