"Some words continue having an impact long after I’ve heard them" by: Jessica Shepard

I don’t know if you’ve seen the 2013 movie “Beautiful Creatures” or not.
But, I’d have to tell you that despite most of the storyline being annoying and teenage angsty drama smothering the supernatural characters – it’s got plenty of serious topics to contemplate if you’re paying attention.
The movie is also based on a series of novels that I still have yet to read.
However, I think one of my most favorite parts of the movie is where the main female character reveals that she has a secret stash of her favorite poetry, lyric and quotes to share with the main male character that ends up being her love interest.
When this confession of sorts happens, her favorite quotes appear glowing in thin air due to her magic powers and I’m really in awe of such a concept.
It also makes me wonder what quotes, poems or song lyrics that other people designate as their favorites.
Personally, I think if my favorite words were visible to everyone it might look like a Jackson Pollock painting and be overwhelming difficult to pick it apart to even begin to read anything.
As I’ve mentioned before, music is a large part of my life and I would have to give most of my quote storage to lyrics.
There are a few quotes that have stayed with me over the years and those content creators are mostly deceased, but their work lives on in pop culture references.
Plus, there seems to be a small area carved out for marketing slogans that stuck in my thoughts and never fully went away.
The best example of this is the “Meow Mix cat food” commercials where cats’ meows were strung together to create a catchy jingle sort of song and continues to crop up randomly when I least expect it.
Still, some of the other quotes are movie dialogue quips that were some of the highlights of their respective films.
So, maybe I have a diverse assortment to choose from and while the source materials vary far and wide, I also admit to carrying a few favored Bible verses in my repertoire, too.
It’s hard to pick my favorites out of all of them because for me that’s no different than attempting to sort out all of my music in five seconds or less.
Despite all of that, I do try to share the quotes or songs that mean the most to me and fit a similar situation that a close friend or loved one is going through.
I know it sounds a bit weird, but the words left an impression and gave me some form of comfort that I’m trying to share with that person, too.
I’m not sure if I could even condense everything down to like a reasonable number with my top-tier favorites leading the list.
Plus, if the words were taken from a movie or song then there are added layers of the medium that can affect the overall impact of those words.
And let’s face it, not everyone is going to understand the words if they’re taken out of context, let alone if it’s some media that they aren’t a fan of, too!
Maybe I’ll start sharing a few of my favorites that seem to go together and give you an example of what I mean that way.
We’ll just have to wait and see if I can narrow my list down a bit more.
