You’ve heard the story of Jonah and the Fish, Noah and the Ark, David and Goliath.
Have you ever heard about David the mad man?
The Bible records how David was in the land of Gath the same town Goliath was from.
He was scared for his life and God gave him wisdom.
We read, “David…greatly feared Achish king of Gath.
So, he disguised his sanity before them, and acted insanely in their hands, and scribbled on the doors of the gate, and let his saliva run down into his beard.
Then Achish said to his servants, “Behold, you see the man behaving as a madman. Why do you bring him to me?
“Do I lack madmen, that you have brought this one to act the madman in my presence?
“Shall this one come into my house?” (1 Samuel 21:10-15).
What an interesting story.
I definitely don’t remember this in Sunday school.
Achish’s response is perfect as he says, “Do I lack madmen?”
God was able to rescue David in Goliath’s hometown.
They surely wanted some revenge.
God set him free through some wisdom.
Psalm 34 describes what David wrote about after this encounter.
He went to the cave to hide with his mighty warriors.
He said, “My soul will make its boast in the Lord…I sought the Lord, and He answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.
“They looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces will never be ashamed.”
I find it amazing how he describes being free from shame.
Yet this is basically what he did in the presence of Achish.
He knew that even if he was embarrassed by a few, God was with Him.
The Lord gives us double for our shame.
David could be free because he knew that he was the wise one.
Sometimes we have to be a Jesus freak like TobyMac says.
Don’t look for man’s approval, they may think you’re a mad man, see yourself how God sees you. You are valuable in God’s eyes.
