Palacios museum features seawall exhibit

Palacios, Texas
The City by the Sea Museum’s new temporary exhibit, “Shifting Shorelines: The Construction
and Impact of the Palacios Seawall” is on view beginning July 20th and will run through
September 9th.
Seawalls are tools that coastal communities use to combat flooding and erosion.
It took many years for Palacios’ seawall to be constructed and advocacy played a key
role in obtaining funding and establishing the Palacios Seawall Commission.
The first seawall in Palacios was built in 1911 before the establishment of the Palacios Seawall Commission.
Without the efforts of numerous individuals advocating for the seawall, the physical landscape
would look drastically different.
This exhibit is free with your general admission fee of $5.
Children and museum members are always free. City by the Sea Museum is located at 401
Commerce St, Palacios, TX.
Our hours are: Tuesday-Friday 12:30 to 5:30 pm and Saturday 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. For groups booking tours, please contact the museum at
museumpalacios@gmail.com or at (361) 972-1148.
