The Bay City Police Department is taking a proactive step to enhance its emergency medical response capabilities by equipping patrol supervisors with advanced trauma kits and providing specialized training to its officers.
Over the past several months, BCPD has developed a project to place trauma medical bags in the hands of patrol supervisors on both day and night shifts.
These bags are not standard first-aid kits; they contain advanced medical supplies, including life-saving tourniquets designed to respond to mass casualty incidents and critical trauma situations.
The early application of tourniquets has been shown to significantly decrease death rates in patients with extremity injuries.
To ensure officers are fully prepared, the Bay City Fire Marshal’s Office - led by Fire Marshal Dan Shook - will provide advanced training for each patrol shift in the coming weeks.
“This initiative supports our department’s strategic goals to enhance preparedness and ensure officer readiness for the evolving challenges we face,” said Chief Christella Rodriguez.
“We are committed to the safety of our community and to equipping our officers with the tools and training they need to respond effectively in crisis situations.”
This project was made possible through generous donations from the 100 Club of Matagorda County and the Lions Club of Bay City.
Their support underscores a strong community partnership and shared commitment to public safety.
“We’re deeply grateful for their contribution,” Chief Rodriguez.
“Because of them, our officers are now better equipped to save lives in those critical first moments.”
