Matagorda County officials controlled a hazardous materials incident east of Texas 60 at Sims Lane, about six miles south of Bay City last Friday.
The chemical leak was quickly identified and remedial measures were taken immediately.
Thanks to the coordination of responding agencies, including hazardous materials specialists from Fort Bend and Harris counties, the situation was stabilized and the origin of the leak was secured.
These collaborations reflect established emergency contingency plans, which ensure neighboring counties can provide prompt assistance and technical expertise during incidents of this nature.
At no time was the population in danger.
All necessary precautions were taken to protect both first responders and residents in the area.
Emergency personnel followed established safety protocols throughout the intervention.
Matagorda County worked closely with the Texas Environmental Quality Commission (TCEQ) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to identify the chemical involved and ensure appropriate safety and containment measures were followed.
Matagorda County thanked Fort Bend and Harris counties for their help and support in stabilizing the situation and securing hazardous materials.
The Texas Division of Emergency Management and the Environmental Protection Agency will assume responsibility for the remaining chemicals and oversee their proper handling and disposal in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Sims Lane is expected to reopen once final safety assessments are completed. Texas 60 remains open and without disruptions.
