July 4th closings and events

   Federal, city and county offices will be closed on Friday, July 4, in celebration of Independence Day.
  Included in federal closings are the United States Postal Service and banks.
  Banks and the postal service return to regular business hours on Saturday, July 5.
  Other federal, county and city offices re-open at normal hours Monday, July 7.
  Bay City Public Library will be closed Friday-Saturday July 4-5 and resume regular hours on Monday.
  Bay City Parks and Recreation Department’s annual “Freedom Fireworks” event is from 6-10 p.m. at Le Tulle Park.
  The event features food, games, and live music at 6 p.m. with fireworks kicking off at 9:30 p.m.

  GFL waste collection service offices and call centers are closed in observance of Independence Day.
  Bay City GFL residential customers will be collected on their next regularly scheduled service day.
  Commercial GFL customers will have no change with normal services provided.
  Matagorda Historical Society has its “3rd Annual Christmas in July” event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 5 at Matagorda Heritage Park, 722 Laurel St.
  The event is free admission and features vendors, cake walk, train rides, silent auction, art classes for kids and adults, barbecue sandwiches, and a petting zoo.
  Proceeds from the event benefit the non-profit Matagorda Historical Society.
  The Sentinel office will also be closed Friday for Independence Day activities but open again at regular business hours on Monday.
