Manslaughter conviction after 5 years

   More than five years after killing another driver in a head-on collision, Karen Rena Rooks (49) was found guilty of manslaughter.      After no more than 20 minutes of deliberation on May 15, 2024, the jury found Rooks guilty of killing Rebecca Harlow on December 19, 2018.

Drug dealer gets 75 years in prison

   Court records state that Bay City Police Department (BCPD) officers were aware that Damien Renwick Jones (47) was distributing drugs in Matagorda County during 2022.

"Van Vleck to graduate 78" by: Jessica Shepard

   A total of 78 seniors will graduate from Van Vleck High School starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at Burl McKinney Stadium.  The stadium is predicted to be packed with graduates’ friends, family members, and peers.  Overall, the seniors earned an estimated $1,006,880 in scholarship funds.

"BCISD banquet recognizes employees" by: Jessica Shepard

   Bay City ISD recognized and celebrated its employees with its annual employee appreciation banquet on May 16.  Guests were treated to a catered meal and live music by the Bay City High School Jazz Band, along with a popcorn bar and several clowns providing live entertainment and balloon art.
