   Almost 30 people got their basic introduction to beekeeping last week.  Bee Love TX owner Cheryl Wilson led the Matagorda County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office’s “Beekeeping 101” April 30 workshop.  Wilson explained the basic tools and equipment needed to start beekeeping in one’s backyard.

Police probe shooting on Hamman Rd

   Bay City Volunteer Fire Department:  On April 11, at 6:50 p.m., responded to a smoke smell at the 5600 block of 7th.  On April 12, at 12:17 a.m., responded to a smoke smell at the 3300 block of Avenue F.  On April 16, at 2:36 p.m., responded to a grass fire at the 1700 block of Spruce.

LCRA awards $14,526 grant to Matagorda VFD

   The Matagorda Volunteer Fire Department soon will add a utility terrain vehicle to its fleet to help first responders reach island and beach areas during emergencies, thanks to a $14,526 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority.
