"MCEDC: drainage study results soon" by: Jessica Shepard

    Matagorda County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) Executive Director Mike Ferdinand told board members that the regional drainage study is in its final review process.  “We’ve got two weeks to make any comments on it as needed,” he added during the March 22 meeting.

   January’s annual Bay City Camofest generated over $87,000 after expenses.  That number was revealed as part of Main Street Program Board President Tami Savage’s Camofest update presentation to board members last week.  “Every aspect of the event was wonderful,” Savage added.

Man sent to hospital after cooking fire

   Fire did an estimated $250,000 in damage to a Hiram Brandon street residence March 25. Bay City Volunteer Fire Department, the Bay City Police Department, and the Bay City Fire Marshal were sent to the house fire at 4703 Hiram Brandon at about 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 25.

County fire calls

   Bay City Volunteer Fire Department:   On March 18, at 3:14 p.m., responded to a gas leak on Avenue D in Van Vleck.   On March 23, at 3:08 a.m., responded to set up a landing zoneat the 6600 block of 7th Street.   Van Vleck Volunteer Fire Department:   On March 18, at 4:46 p.m.

WCJC offers training in carpentry at Bay City campus

   Wharton County Junior College will launch construction trades training this spring at the Bay City Campus. The first program offered will prepare students for employment in the fast-growing construction trade of carpentry.   An initial program – General Carpentry Level I – begins April 23.
