"POBC Commissioners OK tax rate, budget, scope of harbor work" by: Mike Reddell

   Port of Bay City Authority commissioners approved the tax rate and budget, as well as discussed a scope of work for Matagorda Harbor maintenance dredging at their meeting Tuesday, Oct. 10.    The new tax rate will be .04754 per $100 valuation and will support the 2024 budget of $4,106,906.

Rice Festival begins Oct. 19

   The 77th Annual Bay City Lions Club Rice Festival opens from 5-11 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Matagorda County Fairgrounds.    Gate entry is $10 per person all day.     This year’s carnival is provided by Kenny’s Funland Carnival.

   Commissioners Court ended Monday an extension of declaration of disaster for the drought since recent rainfall put Matagorda County below the drought index threshold.

   Early voting for the Nov. 7 election that includes local elections and 14 constitutional amendments begins Oct. 23 and continues through Nov. 3.

"Household Hazardous Waste Day Saturday" by: Jessica Shepard

   The Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day will be from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Matagorda County Fairgrounds.    Household hazardous waste is any product labeled: toxic, corrosive, poison, flammable, combustible, or an irritant that is ready for disposal.

   After about 25 minutes in closed session, Tidehaven ISD school board members unanimously approved renovations at the baseball and softball fields during their regular monthly meeting Monday night.    All trustees were present at the meeting.
