Why is Easter so important?
Out of all of the Holidays in the year, Christmas and Easter rank as the Christian’s most popular.
As you are off work this Sunday and possibly Friday, reflect on the life of Jesus.
Pastor John Ortberg tells the story of a friend of his (also a pastor named Skip Viau) who was attempting to tell the resurrection story in a children’s sermon.
He asked the question, “What were Jesus’ first words to the disciples after he was raised from the dead?”
Before he was able to give the answer, a little girl raised her hand high in the sky, so Skip let her answer. “I know,” she said, “Ta da!”. As Ortberg would argue, it was “as good a translation as any.”
The focus for every Church is and rightly so should about how Jesus is alive today.
I love events for the kids like egg hunts and bounce houses, I don’t see a problem with them. These are simply a fun thing to do for the kids.
Remember parents, you can make new traditions with your family this year.
Make it a tradition to take them to your Church and talk about God.
The world is going to advertise many things that people are going to buy.
We shop in the stores and see many items that are Easter related, but simply because it has an Easter focus does not mean that this is what this day is about.
Resurrection Sunday represents something more important than what we can buy, it is about what God has given to us.
While it is technically true that Jesus was killed, this could not have happened if Jesus did not allow it. Jesus once said, “No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own…” (John 10:18). So while we may get angry seeing scenes of the crucifixion, and rightfully so, we must remember the purpose of the Cross.
It was so break the wall of sin that separated us from God. God spoke out to those who crucified him saying, “forgive them for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34).
What a great attitude.
The forgiveness of God is what this day is all about.
Jesus was not just a man, He was God.
He died on the cross and was raised from the dead on the third day.
Without Christ, we are all dirty.
Through Christ we can be cleansed, and receive the Holy Spirit to live on the inside of us.
Today we can have a new life with God and receive His free gift of Salvation.
These two events, Christmas and Easter remind us of the life and death of Jesus, our Lord. Christmas we see the story of how Jesus was born.
During Easter we take time to remember his death on the Cross, and his resurrection after three days.
These holidays are important because they are centered around the main areas of our Christian faith.
Take time to remember and teach those around you about what this holiday really means.
May we continue to be in awe of all that God has done for us.
