A 21-year-old Bay City man was arrested on several charges after leading police in a car chase and a foot race that he lost Tuesday night, Nov. 22, Bay City police said.
Mark A. Trevino, 21, of Bay City, was booked in Matagorda County Jail for assault on a peace officer, evading arrest with a vehicle, endangering a child, resisting arrest, and a Jackson County warrant, records show.
The chain of events leading to the arrest began when Officer Tyler Ramirez tried to make a traffic stop in the 1900 Block of Avenue C at 9:13 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22.
Ramirez activated her emergency equipment and the vehicle made an immediate turn onto the 1300 Block of 8th Street and accelerate at a high speed, reports show.
The suspect’s vehicle continued to evade until it crashed in a ditch and struck a light pole, police said.
Ramirez observed the driver, later identified as Trevino, exit the vehicle and take off running.
She pursued him on foot and made contact with him at the intersection of Avenue B and Austin.
At that time Trevino refused to follow commands and a struggle ensued, police said.
Trevino was able to get Officer Ramirez’ taser and point it at her, reports show.
Officer Jeremy Washington arrived and helped Ramirez get Trevino in custody.
It was determined that Trevino had a two-year-old child in the vehicle during the pursuit.
Neither the child nor a passenger were injured.
It was also discovered Trevino was wanted out of Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear-possession of a controlled substance PG2.
Active warrant stop leads to several drug charges
Officer J. Estrada was notified of wanted subject Damien R. Jones, 45, of Sweeny, who was walking near the 4100 block of Avenue F. at about 5:49 p.m. Nov. 17.
Dispatch confirmed there was an active warrant for an expired registration.
Estrada found Jones and initiated a stop.
When Estrada told Jones he had an active warrant, Jones began to resist.
Once Jones was in custody, officers searched for weapons.
Officers didn’t find a weapon, but they did discover a large baggie containing a white crystal-like substance that tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine. Estrada also found several baggies containing tablets.
The tablets were later identified as hydrocodone, xanax, ridocaine, and ecstasy, police reports show.
There was also a baggie containing a green leafy substance and U.S. currency, police said.
Jones was taken to Matagorda County Jail and booked for the traffic warrant, resisting arrest, Manufacture/deliver a controlled substance penalty group 3 / 4 <28G, manufacture/deliver a controlled substance penalty group 2 or 2A >= 1G < 4G, and three counts of manufacture/deliver a controlled substance penalty group 1 >= 4G < 200G
Running stop sign leads officers to theft warrant
Officer Tristan Trevino made a traffic stop in the 1800 Block of 8th Street on a vehicle that ran a stop sign at 1:16 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 20. Trevino then contacted the two occupants of the vehicle.
When asked for his driver’s license, the driver, later identified as Rolland W. Burnett Jr., 23, of Bay City produced a Texas ID card.
A check on Burnett’s ID showed he had an active warrant for theft.
Burnett was asked to exit the vehicle.
He was told he had an active warrant and to place his hands behind his back.
Burnett began to resist and, as officers tried to get Burnett’s hands behind his back, he tried to run. Burnett continued to resist arrest until officers were able to get him into custody.
