How can we defeat temptations?
During this new year, we are going to face many temptations.
What are some things that we can do to help us?
We must rely on the Lord and we must trust in the Lord to give us strength. When Joseph was tempted to sleep with Potter for tomorrow he did not say where the Bible says that he ran.
One way to avoid temptation is to do just that: avoid it. We should avoid putting ourselves in situations where we could be in temptation.
Keep an awareness of his presence.
In Luke 4 we see Jesus face some temptations.
This took place right after he was baptized by John the Baptist.
“And the devil said to Him, ‘If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread…I will give you all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore if you worship before me, it shall all be yours.’”
And he led Him to Jerusalem and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to
Him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here.” (Luke 4:3, 6-7, 9).
Each of these temptations begins with the phrase, “If you are the Son of God.”
Identity is important.
The devil does not want you to know who you are.
He wants you to prove who you are.
You do not have to prove anything to the devil.
Know your identity and know what the scripture speak.
This took place right after God spoke highly over Jesus and called him his beloved son.
Even when we have a very high moment, we can face temptation the next day.
The devil wants everyone to follow the same current to stay on the same path.
When we resist and turn towards God, we change pass and swim against the current.
“Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7).
In some circles of Christianity, they teach that whatever happens to you is because God willed it to happen.
Yeah why should we resist some thing if this is God‘s plan?
Shouldn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that there are things that God wants and things that God does not want to happen.
When you are faced with temptation, resist it.
It is the devil that comes to steal kill and destroy.
Don’t just accept everything that happens in your life.
This year start a new plan with God.
Take this year to follow in his footsteps.
You can make temptation stop when you remember the Scriptures, know your identity in Christ, and resist the devil.
Take time to read the book of Luke this year.
Study what God has done for you and you will be blessed.
