It’s such a surreal feeling to realize this is the last weekend of the month – of January 2023.
It feels like we’ve just been breezing through everything and I know that’s not wholly true.
But since I’ve been cleared to use my own shoes for the broken leg chronicle, I’ve been going out to more events and prepping myself for returning to the groove properly.
The only drawback I’m seeing at first glance is figuring out my physical therapy appointments and working on desensitizing my right foot and ankle to walking like a normal person again.
It’s still limited me to flat shoes and athletic shoes – I’m just not up to wearing my Crocs again yet!
Plus, with the weather bouncing between the low 70s for the daytime and possibly the mid-to-low 40s at night, I’m sort of stuck in something closed-toe and more about form and function rather than exact comfort.
I’m going to have to wait and see what happens when I have my physical therapy evaluation next week and bombard the trainer with questions.
Still, with February looming on the horizon, I’m trying to mentally prepare myself for what’s next.
February has been pretty tame when it comes to events – speaking from a historic perspective.
Also, it’s Black History Month, American Heart Month, and National Bird-Feeding Month in the U.S.
Valentine’s Day is pretty hit or miss for me and we barely celebrate it at home anyway.
So, what’s left for the month?
This year only has 28 days in the month, so, it’s short and sweet in that regard.
The only big, local thing on my radar is the start of fair and rodeo season next month.
In fact, those events kick off publicly with the annual royalty pageant Friday, Feb. 10, and run until Saturday, March 4!
With everything from arts and crafts shows to the carnival, musical concert, and rodeo nights – we’re looking at a lot of events spanning those three-ish weeks.
Which, I guess works out in our favor for us so that we have some photos to fill the newspaper.
And personally, since I missed out on the Rice Festival due to my broken leg, I’m probably more excited than mom or Mike to see the fair and rodeo this year.
It’ll just be a little difficult navigating the fairgrounds with my mobility issues and having to be chaperoned everywhere.
I know mom is getting tired of being my official driver, but, I’m not entirely too eager to go back to normal on that front.
As a passenger, I don’t have to pay attention to the road as much and get to just enjoy the sights and sounds around me – something I hadn’t expected to find so comfortable despite my leg.
But, I’m also looking forward to getting my strength and stamina back so I don’t have to rely on mom and Mike all the time.
Hopefully, February can give me plenty of opportunities in that regard.
If all else fails, then I’m praying the weather holds itself on the more moderate side of the fence so my leg doesn’t act like a barometer to tell me every time when the atmospheric pressure and temperature change.
