"Daylight Saving Time arriving Sunday means spring has sprung" by: Jessica Shepard

If the weather didn’t clue you in these past few weeks, then the return of Daylight Saving Time certainly will – it’s springtime!
Well, the weather plus all of the events cropping up are really telltale of the arrival of spring and new growth.
We’ve got new businesses making their debuts and with the fair and rodeo wrapped up for the year, everyone is looking for the next big “thing” to do.
Plus, almost all of the local kids are off school next week for spring break.
And, honestly, can I just confess that spring break is the only real reason why I miss being a student?
Having an entire week off just when we’re out of frost warnings and the daylight hours are starting to stretch forever – that’s the stuff dreams are made of.
The only thing I’m double-checking on this year is the application of sunscreen to all my extremities.
It’s my usual self-care ritual when I can bust out my shorts and T-shirts all over again, but now I’ve got an extra concern – the scars left over from the surgery I had on my right leg.
According to the internet, they require a bit more care in order to stay healthy and hopefully fade away over time.
But, again, I’m not a doctor, so, I’ll just ask mine when I see him and get an official professional opinion about sun exposure and scar tissue at the end of the week.
Though, I’ll maintain being cautious all the same because I don’t need something else to cause any more problems.
Still, I hate the muggy and sticky summer days where it feels like the sun is trying to kill me and fall is so far away right now that it’s barely a memory.
But, right now everything is in a near-perfect harmony of breeziness, warmth, and just enough sunlight to keep plants on schedule, but not enough to turn them into sad scraps of dirt and dust.
Fair warning though that it won’t last very long in our neck of the woods so get out and enjoy it while you can.
And I’m not so happy about losing an hour of sleep with the clocks rolling over one hour either!
I enjoy and value my six-to-eight hours of sleep at night and am not looking forward to the adjustment.
Mostly because that takes a few weeks to nail down and partially because it means I have to rely on my cellphone alarm to make sure I’m not late waking up.
Sometimes, I have to have several alarms scheduled in succession because I’ve been known to dismiss the first one and just fall back asleep.
Though, I will go on record and say that the dogs get pretty rambunctious and active first thing in the morning.
So lately, I can always count on them to disrupt my slumber before my alarm is even set to go off.
I’m probably going to just keep my door closed the entire night and morning to hopefully alleviate that rude awakening problem orchestrated by the dogs.
As it stands, I already have to close my door early to keep Penny from taking over my bed and having to fight her for space when I want to go to sleep.
Don’t worry about her either, there are four dog beds, three couches, and plenty of space on mom’s king-size bed for her to stretch out on for the night.
I think she just prefers stealing half of my bed and then kicking me while she’s sleeping – who says I need a real child to enjoy such loving gestures?
