I don’t know how far out you might have looked at the weather, but forecasters are predicting roughly 70% chance of showers from Wednesday afternoon onward into the weekend.
We may be getting a reprieve Sunday – you know, in time for Easter – but, with everything all soggy from the rain before, it’s not shaping up to be much fun.
It also dampens the mood for Bay City Parks and Recreation Department’s annual Good Friday egg scramble.
Mom and I were discussing the variety of options we had growing up for egg scrambles and hunts.
Back in the middle-to-late 1990s, almost every church and several organizations had egg hunts – even the Bay City VFW and our school campuses.
It was a big deal to seek out the extra special prize eggs for big-ticket items like books, test exemptions, extra credit on tests, or even cash prizes.
I have fond memories and several boxes of photos proving how good I was at egg hunting and how I trained my siblings to do the same.
However, the only one who was ever as good as me at it was Ashlee.
Things are a little different this year and not just thanks to the rain.
My last physical therapy appointment was on Tuesday and now it’s just up to me to work on improving my functionality and stamina on my own.
The doctor has told me that my new hardware hasn’t migrated and my range of motion is at a point where I can resume a sense of normalcy.
And while that’s great news and I’m grateful – the family focus is now on Ashlee.
Recently, she had surgery done on her wrist to help with persistent pain and mobility issues from an on-the-job injury over a decade ago.
She says it wasn’t a major surgery compared to her knee surgery a few years prior, but she is experiencing a host of new problems this time.
On one hand, she’s learning just how much she uses her dominant right hand for tasks instead of her left and that there’s a new sort of pain to deal with, too.
She’s experienced her first bout of nerve pain and we’re still baffled that the doctor didn’t prescribe her anything to help relieve that.
Plus, she’s struggling beyond what she expected or prepared to deal with.
As such, the family has decided to push back our annual and traditional Easter celebrations by a week to accommodate her needs and are hoping for much better weather.
Even though we’re all at age 30 or above, we still hunt for eggs and the idea of a soggy and muddy mad dash for prize eggs isn’t appealing to anyone.
I won’t even go into the details of having to possibly fight a broody hen if she’s sitting on some!
Not to mention, Ashlee is going to need an extra hand and has asked mom to hold her basket while she hunts.
So, we’ll see what next weekend brings and hope for the best.
Regardless of our personal traditions, we hope that everyone can enjoy the holiday with their loved ones safely and happily.
