‘Cultivating Intentions’ by Karen Restivo

Searching in the Direction
   of Uncertainty

Some individuals believe that so much in life is left up to chance.
Nobody hand picks what family they’re born into as far as we know.
Granted, certain variables such as money, fame and talent are believed to be the golden tickets to Easy Street in life; however, I’ve learned that whatever gifts bestowed upon you are balanced with an equal measure of struggle.
It may look easy for some when we’re looking in from the outside, but some struggles disguise themselves in the shadows outside of the light.
As a communication coach, I have an opportunity to work with clients wanting to elevate their life experience by challenging some of the struggles they find themselves paired with personally, professionally or spiritually.
Think of a video game and your desire is to get to the next level.
I ask my clients for a verbal intake form (their story) highlighting details (variables) holding them back from gaining ground in their journey.
This is an essential part of my ability to fully understand their perception of the struggle.
The key word here is perception.
My job is to take what information I’m given (looking at the outside circumstances) and helping my client with their perception of what’s going on from the inside out.
A simple shift in perception opens our eyes panoramically to reveal multiple unnoticed variables working in tandem and clouding our perception of a situation.
The trick is to consciously observe a situation without relying on our unconscious past judgments.
Follow me and I’ll show you what I mean: Imagine as a child you were raised in an environment of fear and intimidation along with a dose of feeling unworthy.
Despite everything, you successfully find yourself with strong athletic skills catapulting yourself onto the sports stage in high school, college and perhaps a professional career.
From the outside, everything looks amazing.
Your fans are convinced you were granted the three golden tickets in life- talent, money, and fame which come with a key to unlock your house on Easy Street.
From the inside however, there are unresolved childhood issues (variables) that are clouding your judgment when it comes to current relationships and decision making.
You pass through life wondering how on earth one part of your life can be phenomenal while the other part is a train wreck.
Years of therapy are in the making.
I’m not able to compete with psychiatrists and psychologists, but as a communication coach, I can point you in the general direction of short-term insight.
Self-awareness is a priceless, hidden gem when it comes to uncertainty in life.
Gain access to the tools necessary to uncover the hidden variables holding your perceptions hostage.
Once discovered, you gain access to the next level.
In other words, the only thing certain in life is uncertainty.
   Invest in your Self-awareness.
