Executive Director City by the Sea Museum Palacios
In an effort to bring more art to a wider audience and to encourage local artists to participate, we have a phenomenal collaborative effort from the Matagorda County Museum, the Bay City Art League, and the City by the Sea Museum who will host a Lone Star Art Guild Qualifying Winter Juried Art Exhibition.
Phew - that was a mouthful! Let me break this down for you.
Currently, there is a call for artists for Matagorda and surrounding counties for all categories, except the K-12 category.
So, if you’re an adult student, non-professional, semi-professional, or professional artist, you’re eligible to enter artwork in your respective artist division!
In addition, there are a total of ten art categories that you may enter.
To be eligible to enter, you must be a current member of your local Art League.
For Matagorda County, that would be the Bay City Art League.
You can register online now through Dec. 1 online (link provided below).
There is a $35 entry fee for your first entry.
Each additional entry is $25 with a maximum of three entries total. The drop off dates for your artwork will be Jan. 5-6, 2024, at the Matagorda County Museum between the hours of 1- 4 p.m.
The exhibition dates - and this is the fun part! - are Jan. 13 – Feb. 17, 2024.
But it won’t just be at one location!
It will be held at both the Matagorda County Museum in Bay City and the City by the Sea Museum in Palacios!
The exhibition will go up first at the Matagorda County Museum from Jan. 13-27, 2024, with the Opening Reception on January 13, 2024.
The exhibition will then be taken down and moved to City by the Sea Museum’s new upstairs gallery space from Feb. 3-17, 2024.
The closing Rreception and Award Ceremony will be at this location on the closing day, Feb. 17, 2024.
All artwork may be picked up at City by the Sea Museum after the awards ceremony.
I am truly excited at the opportunity to see a myriad of art from varying levels of artists at all different points along their artistic journey.
And to see both museums, as well as our local Art League, coming together to organize this exhibition is amazing!
The City by the Sea Museum exhibited paintings by Gaddis Geeslin and Gene Smith Geeslin as well as eight paintings by Forrest Bess earlier this year in their new gallery.
They will be exhibiting another solo exhibition of new works by Zeinab Ghais next month, so stay tuned for that column.
For those of you interested in entering your artwork for this juried exhibition in January (and I encourage you to do so!), you can find out more information and register by going to: www.citybytheseamuseum.org/juried-art-exhibition
There is plenty of time for you to figure out which three pieces you would like to submit or a wonderful opportunity to create up to three new pieces.
I can’t wait to see what talent Matagorda County boasts next year.
And who knows, maybe you’ll win in your division and category!
