"Summer 2025 topping my list of weirdest seasons ever" by: Jessica Shepard

Technically, the last day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere is Monday, Sept. 22.
But with various countywide school districts starting up this week and next, I feel like that counts as the end of summer in my book.
I mean, at least when I was a student, that’s the timeframe that mattered most!
Sure, the temperatures are still high and it feels like the sun and humidity are out to kill me – but I’m still counting in-school or out-of-school timeframes as my hallmarks.
If it helps, I’ll probably make another roundup of summertime experiences in September, but for now, things are definitely still in left field.
Things have been weird at home, locally, nationally and internationally by my standards and I’m not sure how many more oddball instances I’m prepared to deal with.
I’m not even talking about Mike’s rotator cuff surgery because I’ve been mentally prepared for that since last November when his shoulder got broken.
Somehow, right at the start of summer, we kicked things off by rescuing another kitten.
The orange tabby now known as Jack has finally been released from quarantine and I honestly don’t’ remember how we acclimated the last kitten.
Jack has plenty of zoomies, personality, and always wants to play with our other cat Bones, but he’s terrified of the dogs and hides as much as possible.
When that leads to whining from said canine furry freeloaders, I just remind them that one day, Jack will be too big to creep around like some fluffy ninja warrior and be unable to seek refuge under various pieces of furniture.
I don’t think the dogs are convinced, but it’s the best I can do.
Another strange occurrence I wasn’t expecting includes how calm this year’s hurricane season has been.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m thankful it’s been just generic thunderstorms sprinkled over the last 60 days, but weathermen were forecasting more occurrences than this.
That being said, we have until Sunday, Nov. 30 for the tropics to become more active, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it’s smooth sailing until then.
After all, if anything crops up between now and then, we’ll be on deck to keep our readers abreast of the news as it develops!
Otherwise, it’s also gotten equally disheartening and strange to have so many pop culture icons passing within days of each other.
However, the one who left his mark on my life the most was the late Ozzy Osbourne, who passed on July 22.
I grew up listening to him fronting Black Sabbath, then his own personal band, and even while he graced TV with his family’s antics during my teen and young adult years.
I always wanted to see him perform at least once, but timing never panned out, and I had resigned myself to enjoying his music via streaming or purchasing his CDs even before his death.
And while I honestly was a bit depressed with the news, I thought about his life – the famous and infamous bits, along with the millions he touched with his music.
With almost 60 years of making music and being in the public eye, I think he has more than earned his rest!
