Matagorda County election season has begun with candidates filing for school, city council, county and precinct positions.
Other municipal and school district races open for filings starting on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
Bay City city council positions 1 and 2 are up for election.
Position #1 is currently held by Ben Flores, and Position #2 features Jim Folse.
Bay City ISD school board has two positions open for applications – Position #4 and Position #5.
Position #4 is currently held by Priscilla Robinson, and Position #5 has Mark West.
Palacios ISD features four trustee positions up for election.
Those positions are currently held by the following:
Position #2 – Ron Laws
Position #5 – Becky Aguilera
Position #6 – Haley Garcia
Position #7 – Fabian Marroquin
Van Vleck, Tidehaven, and Matagorda ISD elections are held in November.
The Primary Election will be Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
County Clerk Stephanie Wurtz said the site where people can view the candidates who have submitted their application is at https://goelect.txelections.civixapps.com/ivis-cbp-ui/candidate-information.
Wurtz cautions the site may not be current.
