Bay City Fire Marshal Dan Shook is headed back to his home state of Ohio where he will become the Police Chief of Perry Village, Ohio.
The Northeastern town of 1,600 is near where Shook grew up in Painesville, and Perry Village also is close to a nuclear plant.
Shook will join his family – his wife, five children and nine grandchildren in Ohio.
Shook joined the Fairport Harbor, Ohio, fire department and became a paramedic right out of high school.
With his growing experience, Shook became the Madison Fire captain before moving to Texas.
Shook also worked at the Perry Nuclear Generating Station as the plant fire marshal, on the banks of Lake Erie, before coming to Bay City.
When he came to Bay City, he worked at STP as Fire Marshal after joining in 2013 and served in that position for two years.
Shook has quite the resume at Bay City.
Shook then went through the Wharton County Junior College Police Academy for his police certification.
After Shook worked his way through the ranks at Bay City Police Department, he attained the rank of sergeant.
In 2021, Shook became Bay City Fire Marshal and SWAT team leader.
“It’s kind of unique in wearing so many hats,” Shook remarked.
Another such was being named Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Bay City and teaching at the Wharton County Junior College police academy.
Shook holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from Sam Houston State University and now is working on his Doctorate in Emergency Management through Columbia Southern University.
Shook has a reputation for working well with the new media.
“I’ve always liked good relations with the media.”
Part of that experience is working with media in criminal investigations and fire safety.
