The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office is excited to host a home preservation canning course that will be open to the youth of Matagorda County.
The deadline to register is 4 p.m. Friday, July 14, via phone at 979-245-4100.
The cost is $20 per person and can be paid by credit, debit, cash, or check/money order made out to “LAB”.
The event will be from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 18, at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church at 5701 7th Street, Bay City.
Food preservation education guides youth to explore and understand the science and math of safe food preservation.
The course is open to all skill levels going into grades 4-8 and no prior knowledge or experience is required.
The course will be led by the local Matagorda County AgriLife Extension Office’s Family & Community Health Agent Dianne Gertson.
“We had such a good turnout for our adult food preservation class that we thought adding a section for our youth would be beneficial, too,” said Gertson.
“This can also help our 4-H children who are considering entering in the craft show next spring. Parents may call our office to make credit/debit payments over the phone.”
