Crowell Region 3 Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year

Jerry Crowell, principal of Tenie Holmes Elementary and former Bay City High School assistant principal was selected to represent Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) as Region 3 Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year.
“Principal Crowell is an experienced and accomplished leader who is committed to putting students first, supporting staff to be successful, and makes himself available to parents. BCISD is most appreciative for having Jerry Crowell on our team,” said Superintendent Dr. Dwight McHazlett.
“Mr. Crowell has a unique set of skills that he uses to help our families, co-workers, especially our students,” said BCHS Principal Estela Reyes.
“He is known as ‘a kid lover’ and he is,” Reyes added.
“Mr. Crowell worked at BCHS as assistant principal and supported us in so many roles when he was on the BCHS team.
“I have learned and enjoy working with such a professional that cares about students the Blackcat way.”
TASSP recognizes outstanding principals and assistant principals from the 20-region Education Service Centers in the state.
School administrators are nominated and chosen by their peers within their regions.
Nominations are based upon exemplary performance and outstanding leadership. As a Region 3 winner, Crowell is eligible to compete for the state title of Texas Assistant Principal of the Year, Bay City High School.
Crowell, a long time principal and assistant principal, was a member of the Bay City High School leadership team during the 2021-2022 school year, before being named the Principal at Tenie Holmes Elementary.
He attended Southwest Texas State University (Texas State) and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
He attended University of Houston-Victoria and was awarded a Master of Education in Administration and Supervision.
Crowell sees himself as being a risk taker, a visionary, leader of learners, and practitioner of Relation Centered Learning, TASPP said.
Crowell was recognized by his former district as Elementary and Secondary Principal of the Year and HEB Excellence in Education statewide semifinalist twice.
“Relationships shape what we do and how we do it each day. Our Blackcats depend on us to help grow and learn and that can only be accomplished with good, strong relationships,” said Crowell.
Each of the region winners will be recognized during the Josten’s Night of the Stars Awards Dinner held in conjunction with the TASSP Summer Conference in June in Austin.
Each will be presented with an award and recognized in a commemorative book entitled Texas Principals, Texas Heroes.
