Reyes named Principal of Year by secondary school principals’ group

Bay City High School Principal Estela Reyes was named the Region 3 High School Principal of the Year by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals.
The award recognizes educators that go above and beyond in leading their campuses.
Reyes is now eligible to win the TASSP High School Principal of the Year award at the state level, which will be announced later this month.
“I am extremely proud of my students and the staff at BCHS. They are truly the ones that deserve this award,” Reyes said.
“I also want to sincerely thank the staff at Bay City High School. They are a truly remarkable team that serves our students daily to inspire them to reach their goals.
“Our community has endured so much in the past two years (the pandemic, the tragic loss of two students, and Tropical Storm Nicholas).
The staff at BCHS has refused to let those incidents get in the way of student success.
“Without the student-loving professionals at BCHS and their selfless work, this honor would not have been possible. I would also like to thank the community for their continued support of our mission.”
Bay City ISD Superintendent Dr. Marshall Scott III congratulated Reyes on her accomplishment.
“Principal Reyes has done remarkable work improving student outcomes and creating a culture of high expectations at Bay City High School,” Scott said.
“The students and teachers are flourishing under her leadership. Bay City ISD is blessed to have her.”
Reyes said she is most proud of the way her students overcome obstacles.
“There are many opportunities at BCHS that our students can choose,” she said.
“Seeing our Blackcats find their passion, follow their dreams, and achieve things they never thought they could achieve is gratifying.
“Our motto at BCHS is ‘whatever it takes,’ and this is what our teachers do daily to support our students. I am simply blessed to have the opportunity to serve our students, teachers, staff and parents.
“This honor is validation for all of the hardworking people at BCHS and just one of the many accomplishments for us to share.”
