From Tenaris
Tenaris welcomed a group of seventh grade students from Van Vleck Jr. High School to its Bay City, TX, seamless pipe mill for a tour of its operations and robotics demonstration as part of the TryEngineeringTogether program.
Tenaris sponsors the teacher-guided online program, now in its fourth year at Van Vleck Jr. High School, with the aim of generating interest in STEM-related subjects among students, improving their critical thinking and literacy skills through one-on-one support from company eMentors.
“This program has been fabulous. I have had the pleasure and blessing of watching relationships built between students and adults in the field of STEM. I have witnessed the students’ joy when receiving letters from their e-Mentors,” said Regina Densmore, teacher at Van Vleck Jr. High School.
The group of 20 students had the opportunity to meet with their eMentors from Tenaris, either in-person or virtually, tour the control cabin in the hot rolling mill and the quality lab and operate a robotic arm in the company’s training facility.
“This has been a rewarding experience on both sides, for our employees as eMentors and for their mentees, connecting regularly to read, discuss, and analyze STEM-based articles and share among their class and through activities,” said Matthew Gullett, Tenaris community relations senior manager.
“As the academic year comes to an end, it’s great to connect student mentees with our employee mentors and show them firsthand what careers in STEM look like.”
