Bay City Fire Marshal
The Palacios Volunteer Fire Department, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office responded to a major motor vehicle accident at Bowers Seafood, 24524 SH 35 in Palacios at about 6:28 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4.
A vehicle traveling northbound on Texas 35 was turning into Bowers Seafood and was struck by a pickup truck traveling southbound.
The wet road from the rain contributed to the accident, causing the pickup truck to slide off the highway.
The pickup truck went through a fence and struck a high-pressure gas line regulator assembly, creating a natural gas leak.
The gas was under approximately 160 pounds of pressure.
CenterPoint Energy was contacted and responded.
It took nine hours for the gas leak to be controlled, since the line was the primary supply line for Palacios.
No one was injured in the accident.
The accident was investigated by DPS.
The fire marshal wants to remind residents to always monitor road conditions during rain.
Slick roads cause vehicles to easily slide off the roadway and increases the distance required to stop.
