Bay City Police Department is joining TxDOT’s traffic safety campaign #EndTheStreakTX to raise awareness about the long streak of traffic deaths in Texas and how this is an issue that impacts every Texan.
The reality is this: Texas has lost at least one person every day on Texas roads since Nov. 7, 2000.
This year will mark 23 years of daily deaths.
This deadly streak remains a hard reality as more than 83,000 people have lost their lives on roadways since this state-wide campaign began.
Chief Christella Rodriguez wants to share the following tips to help save lives and to raise awareness:
- Make safe driving decisions behind the wheel.
- Don’t drive under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, use a designated driver instead.
- Always obeys traffic laws.
- Always wear your seatbelt.
These few tips, if followed, have proven to save lives. “Our officers will be increasing visible patrols for the remainder of the holidays,” said Rodriguez.
“These recommended tips will help end this horrible death streak and our department takes traffic safety seriously.”
“We need to end the streak of daily deaths on Texas roads!” said Rodriguez.
She wanted to boost this campaign by adding a real-life reminder of the daily lives lost on Texas roads.
Citizens of Bay City are encouraged to see the wrecked vehicle display with #EndTheStreakTX signage, on Texas 35 and FM 457.
