Bay City Police Officers once again teamed up with Texas Department Safety Troopers for a special operation Tuesday, Oct. 26.
Operation Semi Stop was put together to target commercial motor vehicles traveling through Bay City, said Bay City Police Lieutenant Irene Kjergaard.
“Operations like this team our officers with commercial vehicle enforcement troopers,” she explained.
“This creates a great learning opportunity for Bay City officers,” Kjergaard said.
During this operation troopers and officers conducted 29 inspections on commercial motor vehicles.
There were 70 citations or warnings written for federal violations and five citations or warnings written for state violations, Kjergaard said.
Nine vehicles were put out of service for various violations.
Once a vehicle is put out of service, it cannot be put back on the road until the issue that put it out of service is repaired, Kjergaard noted.
“Bay City PD would like to thank the Troopers that came down and worked. We hope to conduct more operations like this in the near future,” she said.
