From Matagorda Cattlemen’s Association
The Matagorda County Cattlemen’s Association presents their annual “Cattlemen of the Year” award each year during the Saturday night Rodeo performance.
The 2024 “Cattlemen of the Year” title was awarded last March to two brothers who are lifelong residents of Matagorda County, Jay and Scott Ledwig.
Their love of farming and ranching began at a young age watching and tagging along with their dad.
They are second-generation farmers and ranchers who produce quality products.
Not only are they involved in the cattle industry, but they also stay busy farming rice, cotton, corn, milo, and soybeans.
Scott married his wife, Cheryl, and had two children - Mason and Natalie.
Jay and Carol are high school sweethearts who married in 1987 and went on to have two children as well - Meaghan White and Luke.
They have also been blessed with three precious granddaughters who they adore spending time with. Jay has served on several boards in Matagorda County, including the Appraisal District Board, Farm Bureau Board, and the Farm Service Agency Committee.
These partners had the honor of being named Rice Farmer of the year in 2007, as well as outstanding Conservation Farmers of the Year.
Scott and Jay are deep rooted in the past and future of agriculture and are both well-respected and well-liked by our community.
