From Bay City Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture
The Bay City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture Board of Directors announce the post-Covid re-organization of the Chamber Agriculture Committee.
“The committee is one of the most important committees in Matagorda County” said Amanda Sitka, the chamber board chair and Manager of Communications at STP Nuclear Operating Company.
“Agriculture in Matagorda County is very important to our economy” continued Sitka.
The whole process that provides the nation with its food also supports small business nationwide.
The food supply keeps people fed and allows America to be great, she said.
The thought of food shortages is scary and seems distant, even impossible, Sitka added.
“But we have seen this so many times. Who would have thought there could be a shortage of baby formula?”
This committee will make sure the spotlight stays on Matagorda agriculture, Sitka commented.
“All of the ag community, we have a huge group of cattlemen and women that maintain more cattle than people in Matagorda County.
“We provide most of the residential sod (grass) for the state,” she said.
Hay farming is a growing commodity, Sitka noted.
“Traditional farming is still good, but there are head winds hurting our agriculture partners,” she said.
“We also are excited and proud to the chair of the ag committee will be Sydney Armatta, relationship manager for Capital Farm Credit, Sitka said.
“Being a fourth-generation farmer, I have grown up in the agricultural industry.
“I look forward to being more involved in the ag community,” Armatta said.
