On Monday, July 31, 2023, at approximately 1:18 p.m., officers were dispatched to the
4000 block of 7th in reference to an accident.
The caller advised one of the vehicles was fleeing the scene of the accident.
The caller advised the fleeing vehicle was a yellow Jeep and was driving erratically.
Dispatch received several calls about the accident.
One caller notified dispatch the Jeep was traveling westbound on 7th Street.
Shortly after a caller advised the Jeep was involved in another accident in the 3300 block of 7th Street.
Officer Henry Ann Charles, was in the area at the time of the second accident.
The driver of the yellow Jeep exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was
apprehended by Charles.
EMS was dispatched to the scene and transported both drivers to Matagorda Regional Medical Center.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the second accident was later life-flighted to Houston.
Currently charges are pending as officers wait for lab results on the driver of the yellow Jeep.
