City, ISD races draw attention for May 2 vote

   With the primaries over, the next elections on horizon are five municipal, school board and Caney Creek MUD elections Saturday, May 2.
  County Clerk Stephanie Wurtz has election contract with all five entities.
Bay City City Council positions 1 and 2 are up for election Saturday, May 2.
  Position #1 became an open race after incumbent Ben Flores dropped out to run for Texas Land Commissioner in the Nov. 3 general election.
  Three candidates now have filed for Position 1: Lyn Ryman-McCalister, Stacy L. Rowh, and Cory McCray
  Position #2 features Jim Folse, the current Mayor Pro Tem who is seeking re-election. 
  His opponent in that race is a former city employee, Marilyn Alvarado.
Bay City ISD school board has two positions up for election – Position #4 and Position #5.
Position #4 is currently held by Priscilla Robinson, who is unopposed.
  Position #5 is held by Mark West.
  West faces Martiesa Smith at the polls.
  Palacios ISD features four trustee positions up for election.
Those positions are currently held by the following:
   Position #2 - Ron Laws
   Position #4 - Brian Busby
  Position #5 - Becky Aguilera
 Position #6 - Haley Garcia
 Position #7 - Fabian Marroquin
  Laws will defend his seat against Luis Pina, Jr at the polls. 
  Karen Botbyl is running for Position 4, and Position 5 features Marcos Aparicio.
  Haley Eggmeyer Garcia is pursuing Position 6, and Position 7 incumbent Marroquin is unopposed.
  Palacios City website shows the following had submitted for a place on the May 2 ballot.
  Rick Cink/ Mayor
  Troy Lewis/ Position 2
  Linda Parker/ Position 6
  Mark Warny / Position 1
  Ina Sonnier / Position 6
  Michael Dotson / Position 1
  Van Vleck, Tidehaven, and Matagorda ISD elections are held in November.
