Courtroom closed for repairs

Matagorda County issued a June 1 update on the continued temporary closure of the 130th District Courtroom in the County Courthouse.
The closure has allowed for HVAC repairs, environmental mitigation, and restoration work necessary to maintain a safe and functional facility.
The closure follows the identification of persistent humidity accumulation associated with HVAC system deficiencies affecting the courtroom area.
A microbial assessment conducted as part of the County’s investigation found no significant microbial buildup posing a health or safety hazard to the public, court staff, county employees, or other occupants of the courthouse.
The remediation efforts are precautionary and intended to fully address humidity-related conditions and prevent future environmental concerns.
Since September 2025, Matagorda County has worked with engineering, environmental, and HVAC professionals to assess conditions, identify underlying causes, and implement corrective measures.
Current work includes HVAC remediation, duct cleaning, and targeted environmental cleanup within the courtroom.
To minimize disruption, Matagorda County and the District Courts are coordinating alternative courtroom arrangements and scheduling accommodations to ensure continued public access to judicial proceedings.
Matagorda County remains committed to maintaining courthouse facilities that are safe, functional, and suitable for public use.
Additional updates regarding courtroom operations and reopening schedules will be provided as work progresses.
