New confirmed cases of COVID-19 are rising in Matagorda County and state health data shows new cases over the previous 14 days have more than doubled since mid-December.
“Like other areas of the state we are seeing an increase both in the number of patients testing positive for COVID-19 and those being admitted to the hospital,” said Tiffany Foltyn, spokesman for Matagorda Regional Medical Center (MRMC).
“Currently we have seven patients admitted with COVID-19,” Foltyn said Monday, Dec. 27.
The per capita rate for the county is 3.1 new cases per 1,000 residents, with 114 new cases reported over the previous 14 days, the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) reported Monday, Dec. 27.
On Dec. 14, DSHS reported 50 new cases over the previous 14 days and a per capita rate of 1.4 per 1,000 residents.
DSHS shows 10 new cases were reported in Matagorda County Dec. 27, 15 new cases Dec. 26, and 16 new cases Christmas Day, Dec. 25.
As of Dec. 22, 19.2 million Texans have received at least one dose, which is 65.8% of Texas’ population, and 16.4 million people, or 56.1%, are fully vaccinated.
So far, 4.4 million people, or 14.9%, have gotten booster shots.
A total of 38.6 million doses have been administered, including booster shots.
In Matagorda County, 45.1% of its residents are fully vaccinated and 11.8% have received booster shots.
Broken down, that’s 16,352 residents who are fully vaccinated in the county and 4,275 have received boosters.
Overall, Matagorda County has reported 6,278 total cases with 162 deaths.
