"COVID-19 county cases keep rising, 10 new deaths " by: Mike Reddell

   New confirmed cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in Matagorda County.
   The county had 490 new cases over the past 14 days, the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) reported Monday, Sept. 13.
   The per capita rate of infections is 13.4 per 1,000 residents and the rate of fatalities is 3.6 per 1,000 residents.
   Overall, the county has 4,621 confirmed cases, 890 probable cases, 133 deaths, 369 active cases and 5,022 estimated recoveries.
   There were 123 deaths reported last week and 118 the week before, DSHS said.   
   In its weekly COVID-19 tracking that was posted Thursday, Sept. 9, the Bay City Independent School District reports that 48 students and seven staff members tested positive.
   As of Sept. 11, about 48.9% of Texas’ 29 million people have been fully vaccinated – 83% of Texans are age 12 and older and eligible for a vaccine.
   In Matagorda County, 37.9% of residents are fully vaccinated.
