Joe Enoch sees the Swing for the Waves Golf Tournament Saturday, Sept. 27, at Rio Colorado Golf Course, as a key inaugural event for the Matagorda County Regional Aquatics Center.
And Enoch, a former Bay City Community Development Corporation President and City Council Member, envisions the Matagorda Area Aquatic Center as another tool in the toolbox to promote Bay City and Matagorda County as a quality of life initiative for families looking to relocate to Matagorda County.
"The Swing for the Waves Golf Scramble is one of many fundraisers to offset the cost of equipment and supplies needed for the new aquatic center," Enoch said.
Wellness Matagorda County (WMC) is teaming up with the Bay City Community Development Corp, the City of Bay City, the County of Matagorda and the YMCA of the Golden Crescent to build the countywide Aquatics Center, Enoch points out.
WMC has successfully led several wellness initiatives including the 1.2-mile Hike and Bike Trail on the Bay City High School campus and the Wellness Dome adjacent to the Matagorda Regional Medical Center, Enoch explains.
"The last major project for WMC is to build a countywide Aquatic Center," he said.
Enoch noted the proposed center will include an indoor competitive swimming and exercise area, aqua therapy, a small water park with a lazy river, and a splash pad and large slides.
The center will also be available for hosting birthday parties, reunions and other community events.
In addition, the facility will cater to local first responders training, recreation activities, physical therapy, and will provide the opportunity for every third-grade student in the county to learn to swim, he added.
All programming and management of the facility will be conducted by the YMCA.
"Community leaders from the City of Bay City, Bay City Community Development Corporation, Matagorda County and the YMCA are supportive of this project and it is proving to be a great team building project for all of Matagorda County.
