Community Actors of South Texas (CAST) presents “Verses & Vingettes” starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the CAST Theater, 920 Nichols Ave.
Tickets are $10 for general admission and must be purchased online at casttx.booktix.com in advance.
“In a first-of-its-kind production for CAST, ‘Verses & Vignettes’ opens the door and the stage for local talent to shine,” said CAST Vice President of Productions Darve Smith.
“Verses and vignettes is a night of staged readings. The line-up features local writers and actors, reading or performing, their favorite pieces.”
Many of these artists have never performed on stage, and many are reading their own original prose or poetry.
“In a way, the idea came from Tim Bricker,” he explained.
“Tim asked if he could read something he wrote, on stage before one of the CAST plays. I ran with the idea and thought if one person wanted an audience for their writing, maybe others did too.”
This show will shine the spotlight on 16 local artists, performing a total of 22 separate pieces.
The performances will span two acts of about 60 minutes each, with one 15-minute intermission.
“For the first-ever ‘Verses & Vignettes’ CAST decided to start small and perform one night only,” added Smith.
“Hopefully the ‘open mic’ style production finds its audience and we can continue to expand and offer it every year.”
