Fire Marshal blames illegal fireworks for grass fire Friday

   Illegal fireworks are blamed for a grass fire on Mulberry late Friday, July 4, Bay City Fire Marshal Dan Shook said.
  The Bay City Volunteer Fire Department, Bay City Police Department, and Shook were sent to a grass fire in the 4600 block of Mulberry, vacant land owned by the City of Bay City at about 11:10 pm, 
  A neighbor heard fireworks in the area right before she noticed the field fire. 
  The Fire Marshal and a police lieutenant arrived on scene and identified about a quarter acre of land on fire.
  Remnants of discharged fireworks were in the ditch next to where the fire occurred. 
  The fire department arrived and was able to extinguish the fire while it was still a small area. 
  No homes were in danger during the incident. and no one was injured during the incident. 
  Fireworks are illegal to discharge inside the city limits. 
  The Bay City Police Department responded to 33 calls for service related to fireworks over the holiday weekend - Thursday evening, July 3, until Sunday morning, July 6.
  This is an improvement from previous years where the police department has seen close to 100 calls for service at times, Shook said.
